New Page for Vanguard Sailboats SoCal / Matt McKinley

This past summer Matt McKinley took over the reins of Vanguard's 49er program, introducing himself to the class with parts and on-water support at the 2005 Gorge North American Championships. Matt's enthusiasm to learn about the 49er, grow the class (and maybe even buy a boat!) is a great sign that our class is moving forward in NA and can expect great parts/sales support in the future.

Cunningham/Paterson win International 14 Canadians

Tied after two days of breeze at Royal Canadian YC in Toronto, it all came down to one final light air race between CST 49er veterans Dan Cunningham/Rob Paterson and Toronto skiff kingpin Fred Eaton and crew Jason Lemieux. Cunningham/Paterson won the final race, crowning themselves 2005 I14 Canadian Champions. Other solid performances in the top ten included 2005 49er rookies Steve Waldie and LP Bougie-Bastien (6th overall), and RCYC 29er phenoms Billy Gooderham and Peter Dixon (10th overall).

Canadian 49er Class 2006 Membership Forms are now available

At their Annual Class Meeting this past July, the Canadian 49ers voted unanimously to begin collecting class dues. The 2006 dues are $50 CAD per boat and can be submitted with your 2006 Canadian Class Membership Form (available online) to register you as a 2006 Canadian 49er Class Member.

Your Canadian Class dues will allow Canadian 49er sailors to have a voice in the International 49er Class, allow us to compete internationally and at major events, and will help support the growth of the 49er class at home and internationally. The dues cover the calendar year January to December.

Trevor Parekh was elected as the inaugural Canadian 49er Class Treasurer and had the tough job of collecting 2005 class dues mid-way through the season. If you have any questions regarding 2006 Class dues, please contact Trevor, or any of your other Canadian Class contacts.

Mexico Update (summer 2005)

Here all has been very slow this year. One of our teams is doing a lot of car racing on the weekends, another is getting married so we've hardly done 5 regattas. Our Nationals are going to be on Oct 15th, we expect 6 boats. We had a team from Puerto Rico wanting to come but we could not get him a boat to use. Of course all of those who are willing to do the traveling, and bring a boat are very welcome on Oct 15th in Valle (for the Mexican Nationals). Housing of course is on us! Hope to see you soon. Antonio
